BERKELEY, CA, December 19, 2024 – The world’s fastest autonomous racecars – the AV-24s, unveiled last year at CES 2024 – return to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway next month, this time at top speeds. After a year of testing and pushing boundaries, AI Racing Tech and the nine competing teams of the international Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) reconvene for a head-to-head match-up on January 9 at CES 2025.
Led by UC Berkeley in collaboration with UC San Diego and Carnegie Mellon University, the AI Racing Tech team has put its blazing blue-and-gold Dallara AV-24 through its paces at testing grounds around the globe, from the Space Shuttle Runway at the Kennedy Space Center and the celebrated Brickyard oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the legendary track at Monza, Italy. The new and improved features on the 2024 model have been recalibrated. The new software is in place, and the team has been tested. They’re ready to go.
“We are very excited to attend this year’s IAC/CES competition,” says Team Principal Gary Passon. “This has been a rebuilding year for the team, adapting to the updated AV-24. The students have done an amazing job in our testing sessions – getting the team ready for high-speed runs and wheel-to-wheel action.“
The race of the AV-24s is slated for 2:00 to 4:00 pm (PST) on Thursday, January 9, during CES 2025, around the 1.5-mile oval at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, around 10 miles from downtown, on the northeast edge of town. You need to be registered for CES 2025 to attend the race.
READY. SET. VEGAS!
