Code of Conduct

Guidelines

ROAR Academy staff is always looking forward to providing your child with a rigorous, memorable, and safe academy experience. Each student has a responsibility to act in a way that assures a positive experience for all. All students are required to follow these guidelines.

Attendance

There are no excused absences at ROAR Academy. As expectations are high and courses are fast-paced, even one absence makes it difficult to keep pace. Therefore, students are expected to attend every class session. Even with advance notice, instructors are not obligated to provide make-up opportunities. Regardless, there are some things that cannot be “made up” (such as introductions, class participation, group activities, presentations, or examinations, for example).

Academic Integrity

The ROAR Academy requires a high level of responsibility and academic honesty from its students. Any student who commits an act of scholastic dishonesty is subject to dismissal from the ROAR Academy without refund.

Behavior

Inappropriate/unacceptable conduct includes but is not limited to behavior that disrupts instruction, disrespects any member of the ROAR Academy, misuses technology used for instruction, or exhibits uncivil behavior. This also includes transmitting any inappropriate or objectionable behavior, imagery, speech, or other content during meetings, whether intentional or unintentional. Any student who commits an act of inappropriate conduct, or whose family member commits such acts while interacting with the ROAR Academy staff, faculty or students, is subject to dismissal from the ROAR Academy without refund.

Prohibited Behaviors

  • Endangering the health and safety of themselves, other students, and/or staff or volunteers.
  • Stealing, damaging, or failing to care for University or personal property.
  • Continual disruption of the program.
  • Refusal to follow the behavior guidelines.
  • Inappropriate physical contact.
  • Using profanity or inappropriate language or displaying clothing or other personal items with offensive content.
  • Bullying or acts of aggression or violence.
  • Possession or use of illegal substances, tobacco, or alcohol.
  • Possession of weapons – any object that may cause harm to another, or place another person in fear of his/her safety, may be considered a weapon.

Nondiscrimination

The University of California, in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, or age in any of its policies, procedures, or practices; nor does the University discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. This nondiscrimination policy covers admission and access to, and treatment and employment in, University programs and activities, including but not limited to, academic admissions, financial aid, educational services, and student employment.
